'Tis the season to be bored =,=

Well, What to say... I'm back, and feeling very bored. Still, loads of stuff to be excited about, it's the holidays at the moment.

Events in order:

Sub-passed my Economics and China Studies Promotional Paper, and had to take supplementary exams. Results will be out by Friday, and if I screw up both of them, I retain (I deduced I only have to pass 1). Go figure.

Went back to looking at MTG. I've been looking at articles, even if I have not been playing. So far, I'm looking at a new deck: it will be a surprise, and shall be aptly named Ice Kopi.

Went for the USS job interview. I think my chances of getting a post went out the window when I told the interviewer I could only work 3 weeks, as compared to so many of them who could work till the end of January, and beyond.

Oh yes, only last Saturday, I went to my friend's place to have a movie marathon. In the end, only me and another guy could tahan till 5am. The movies were:

Ninja Assassin (I was a bit squeamish at the gore initially, but soon warmed up)
Meet the Spartans (LOL!)
Paranormal Activity (Freaky, and not to mention uber scary.)
Zombieland (not as scary as above, along with some comedy.)
Nacho Libre (stopped halfway)
Borat (There was a nice brawl between 2 naked men, we were practically ROFLMAO-ing.)
Rush Hour 3 (not a good way to end off the marathon, imo.)

We played card games, had snacks, and overall had a great time.

Now what? Well, I've been doing chores, picking up recipes and whatnot, and sleeping.
Should have time to work on my blogging, but we shall see.

The Last Days before the main event.

Well, it's been ages since I last updated. It's confirmed, my Language Promos are on the 17th of Sept. 2010. Chinese I'm not really worried about, since it's not taken into consideration for my promotion criteria, but GP, I'm sweating buckets worrying.
ACcording to the Promotion Criteria, I'm required to get a pass grade or better to be promoted. That means anything less than a E grade, I don't get promoted regardless of how well I did for the other Papers.

Another thing to be worried about is my maths. I did a practice paper and found I couldn't do some of the questions without confirmation from my notes. Good thing I still have a month to practice or I'm really screwed. After these 2 language papers this Friday, my friend, who did the Math, told me I've got only 8 days left per subject in my curriculum to study. That's a topic a day if I can spread it right. I've already planned ahead, and the plan goes into action right after Language Promos. In other news, at least my exam ends on the 15th of October, 2010, and I get a mini-holiday the week after. Sweet.

Promotional Examination Worries aside, I haven't had the time to update on my leisure status. Deck Status: Not really ready yet. With the New Leoin Arbiter coming out and possibly hosing the Primeval Titan, I'm really gonna have to rethink my deck. I'm thinking Mono Black Control now, it's shaping out to be a Juggernaut by the looks of the quality of the SOM cards. Due to my exams however, I'll probably give the prerelease a miss... Same goes for the F1 events, I miscalculated.

As for my Blog, I'm recently looking to Wordpress to post about my leisure activities unrelated to MTG. The blog's not up yet, though expect to see a completely different side of me in this blog, it's been hiding for years. I'd also like to create a blog that caters to my friends who may have difficulty comprehending the stuff that goes on in THIS blog. I should have plenty of time during the holidays, which are not until the 26th of November.

AS for my Story-Writing Blog, it's still going. 3 chapters are already on the draft.

3 DAYS TO GP PROMOS AT THE TIME OF WRITING THIS.

Really grindin' now.

Oh dear... only 17 more days to go before the GP Promotional Exam. And I haven't started drilling properly, too much stuff that screws up my momentum. I knew I should have started earlier... oh well. At least I'm doing better at my tests now. Next Week's a holiday, that would be a good time to slot in many drilling sessions. I cannot afford to make anymore mind maps, they are extremely time-consuming. And I still got my Project Work to worry about... *Sigh*. In any case, I'm going to settle a few things first before I could drill properly:

1) Finish mind map for Econs, I've only got a few chapters, and they are really easy to do.

2) Finish my Econs Assignment. 2 Questions, due this Thursday. Better get cracking.

3) Revise Geography topic on Population, that was cleared today.

4) Really improve the writen report. God knows we're in trouble for this one.

5) EOM. Due 3rd Sept. 600 words, no problems.

I'll also try to brew up a proper Turboland deck. I've many ideas stewing in my head... Gonna see if I can fit in Obstinate Baloth... Here's the Creature Suite:

Well, it's a little creature-light at the moment, but no worries. My only concern is that I quickly get run over by RDW, hence necessiating the Baloths. Also, there's a new surprise Archetype my friend would have liked previously; Soul Sisters. It's a deck that takes advantage of essentially 8 copies of Soul Warden and synergises it with plenty of cards that like life gain such as Ajani's Pridemate and Serra Ascendant. Walletslayer then rounds up the group. It has a surprising number of surprise wins. Here's how to fry it in my opinion: Leyline of Punishment. Of course, any white deck could be packing an Oblivion Ring or 2... Another method would be to stick a Sparkmage and start shooting down those Wardens before it gets ridculous. Of course, they could always reload with the Ranger of Eos. The point is, that you just want to be rid of the Wardens. Good luck with that. The fault with my deck is that it has no way to work with the board, save for Frost Titan. With it needs is some removal... hmm.

A simple record of things.

Well, it's been a while since I updated this, so let's get on with it.

Good things first; I managed to pass my economics test, finished my essays on time, and able to get some studying done. Things are definitely looking up. As for MTG, I'm looking to add some blue to allow me to interact with the board. I'm thinking lots of counters, etc. Also, I'm looking into trying to make a budget Turbo Land Deck. I've looked at the prices of some of the cards and the prices are through the ROOF! Here's a list of what I may not use:

Jace, The Mind Sculptor: $200 a piece? You've got to be kidding me.
Primieval Titan: While he seems to be the main force of the deck, I don't really think I can afford a card of this calibre. I'll try to obtain it though.
Lotus Cobra: Expensive now, will be expensive for a LOOOOOOONG time yet. Helps ramp up to others though.
And so on. However, I'm confident of getting the U/G Sac-Lands (Misty Rainforest), Jace Beleren, and perhaps Frost Titan on the cheap. I should run a bit of a control game and put things away with a big fatty (Frost Titan perhaps). However, the Eldrazi List also intrigues me. Anyways, this are my options for the following:

Also, the buddy I've made during my Shanghai-Beijing Immersion Trip during June has responded back. Apparently she has been really busy, and her test that will determine which University she goes to is next week. She did find the time to provide me an insight. It's also good for me too, because now I've an insider account of China's Policies from a citizen's point of view, and in the Capital too. This is definitely going to help my China Studies Grade.

The 1st of many... many things indeed.

Man, I've not updated this since the start of August. As we draw to a close on the NDP celebrations and prepare for the YOG, I've been feeling a sudden rush of thoughts and really feel like penning them out on paper. As such, I'll open a new blog featuring short stories starting this week. But 1st, we need stories right? Not to worry, I've already thought up of a series. Here's a sneak peek of the story, Prologue and 1st Chapter to be out by this week, no less.

The March: Prologue.

Log 1: 14th Day of Spring, Year of Soaring Albatross, 1st Year of the Battle of the Fervent Ones.

-BEGIN LOG-

It was the beginning of many, many things. Tensions have been rising between the 2 Colonies of F'reak and Mor'Onia, due to past incidents. Then it happened. The Fall of the Shooting Star, the council that has held the peace between the 2 colonies for millenia. Some say that as the council fell, A star came crashing from the sky. Others say it was a dragon. Whatever it was, it revealed a patch of a powerful material, material that has made weaponry that was the stuff of legends. Naturally, it was in both sides' best interests to harvest that material. Trouble was, the patch was right along the borderline between the two colonies. Stakes have been claimed, contested, and the 2 sides have been fighting since.

That afternoon...

"Corporal, I've made up my mind. Starting tomorrow, you'll be promoted to Sergeant, and will lead our recruits on the Annual Training March. And look sharp, I don't want them to look like fools on your return, boy."

"But Sir-"

"No buts. An order's an order, boy. Now go back to barracks. You'll need the rest."

"Yes Sir."

Making a 180-degree Turn, the newly minted Sergeant (AKA me) began preparations for the March.

Personally, I feel that the background history was not needed, but meh. I also felt that the names of the 2 colonies could use some work, but I was too lazy to make amends. Anyways, I hope it'll draw some viewers haha.

As for MTG, I'm still running tokens, cept I've taken out the white. It runs more smoothly now. I am thinking of running blue though. It opens up a whole world of draw, utility and counters that can protect me from wraths. If not... U/B dec. anyone?

Right... I'm just typing it out to empty my mind a little and get relaxed. I still got 2 more classes to go for today... so meh.

Right. Main point for the post, we're now try to clear our GPP so that we can move on to WR and finally the big presentation come this November. Our case study's pretty solid, but the Projected case... not so much. So after we hand in our GPP, we're gonna start with a new projected case. This means more research, more work and more pain haha.

As for MTG, my G/W tokens dec is coming alog pretty well. I am able to summon a big bunch of creatures by turn 4 and should be ready to swing FTW the following turn, with enough mana for Autumn's Veil, which I'll be sideboarding. Also, seeing as Wesley's working on a EDH deck, I would also like to give it a shot, as I've plenty of stuff i'm just itching to use for a while. As for my R/B deck... well let's just say until I get a bit more draw, and a fatty i wanna use, it's on hold. Here's a list though.

What? 2 Months Already? Man that was Fast. Nah, joking. I only came back to post. I'll be updating once in a while, just that my schedule is unsuitable for an
everyday entry.

That Saturday, I finished off some work I had. Still got some left, but at least
it's in a qty. that I can tackle by this afternoon, which is today, the day of post.
So afterwards I went off to Brendan's for Draft.

At the Draft...

I opened quite a few excellent cards, including 3 copies of Excommunicate, 2 Plummets, an Obstinate Baloth, 2 copies of Duskdale Wurm, and Overwhelming Stampede. I also drafted alot of early game Defenders and plenty of Life Gain. End-result?
A G/W Deck with enough fatties and early gamers to be competitive throughout, and puts games away with Overwhelming Stampede. Here's how I did:

Game 1~2: VS Brendan playing Mono-red.

Well, this is my friend Brendan. Excellent player, loves dragons, and practically worships Ninjas. He managed to draft Mono-Red since he noticed a trend that there were plenty of lack-luster Red cards that can add up when played as a single-color.
He also managed to snitch a bomb, Ancient Hellkite. No important Burn Spells though,
Although Fling was pretty excellent in the games to come. However, against my deck, here's what happened...

Game 1: He had a early start with Goblin Balloon Brigade, and was pounding away until I played Ajani's Mantra to stop him in his tracks. Soon afterwards Obtinate Baloth came down on my side, and it was a race. He played Arc Runner, whacked me around for 6, and Flung the would-be-dead-soon Runner at my Baloth. But I had another Fatty and 1 more Mantra, and when I said gain 2, it was on to game 2.

On to Game 2. He had a pretty good start again, but I quickly stabilized. However, he was churning out Goblin Balloon Brigade after Goblin Ballon Brigade, followed by a Molten Firehound, which got excommunicated, and an Earth Servant, which knocked me down to 10. I drew my card, played Spined Wurm, followed by Overwhelming Stampede the next. He had an Answer, and could have won if he had just flung his servant at the Wurm, and attack me with a 8-timed pumped Firehound the next. He didn't lol.

Stampede Kills: 1

Next 2 Games were with Wesley. He was tricky, had a lot of strong cards including a Baneslayer. He hit me a ton of times with his Conumdrum Sphinx, which got excommunicated twice before I pacified it. Now that was out of the way, I quickly set-up a counter-attack and finished him with massive chunks of damage thanks to Overwhelming Stampede. After that game, he showed me his Baneslayer, which got stuck in his hand due to him being unable to play it due to being unable to draw a 2nd plains. Good thing too.

Stampede Kills: 2 (Double Kill!)

Game Two was less complicated. No annoying bombs this time, but to be careful I had sided in my 2 Plummets. None of them came out that game, and though he kept bouncing my fatties with Unsummons and Aether Adepts, he was unable to stem the tide and again fell to a Stampede. Triple Kill for the Stampede!

Stampede Kills: 3

Last 2 was with Kenta. He's a really nice chap, a Track and Field Member, and had somehow chalked up a Bant 60-Card Monster in Draft. I got seriously Mana-Flooded that game while he got Mana-Screwed. But after 7 turns he started chalking up lands, got a few creature-accelerants, and dropped fatty after fatty, including Sun Titan and Vengeful Archon, all supported with the Sword of Vengeance. Needless to say, despite some handy Blinding Mage stalling, I lost that one.

Game 2 was... different. I got my lands this time, as well as some handy utility cards. Not much from his side other than the Llanowar Elf, Serra Angel, which got Excommunicated twice before being Plummeted, and Stormfront Pegasus, which also got Excommunicated. He scooped after a while, and we agreed on a draw since they all gtg.

Well, I really appreciated the advice I got from last week, and I really enjoyed myself. Overwhelming Stampede's an excellent Finisher, as long as you got fatties to support it. So anyway, I finished my G/W Tokens Dec. Here's a list:

Cards that didn't really prove itself were Brindle Boar and the Elixer. Maybe it needs some work. I'll cut some lands for more accelerants like Llanowar and Arbor, and maybe add a few big hitters like Obstinate Baloth and Garruk Wildspeaker And I'll tell you how it went next post.

Last Post, for some time.

Well, I haven't uploaded any entries in ages, as you can see from the title, this will probably be the last post you'll see for some time, due to foreseen circumstances.

1) Did pretty poorly for the Block Test. 2 Passes, a Sub-Pass, and 3 Fails. That's a lot worse than expected, but at least I did pretty well for Maths, topping the class. The last time I ever did top the class was at Secondary 3 for my POA. God, topping the class's pretty hard lol. Econs, on the other hand was a complete flop. 6/55, that is how you do horribly.

2) Work's clogging up again. PW, Art Week, and other HW which may come by. Add in changes in the timetable and you will probably find it a chore to balance the time.

3) Promos is only 62 days away at the time of post. Promos is my last chance to get promoted to J2 next year, and I feel that 2 months' ample time to get a decent grade.(at least a few Bs to go around, and of course an A for Maths)

2nd week of the term, Day 1, Take a seat, have some tea.

Well, now that we're back and settling down quite nicely, Let's get back to talking about other stuff.

Let's see... Oh right. The students from Ningbo came to our school today. They gave this little talk, but no one was really listening. Poor chaps. School was long today, I kept dozing off. After imbibing about 2 bottles of lemon jelly, a sandwich, and had a 10 min nap, I felt a bit better. But... time to stock up on sweets again. It's gonna get tiring.

As for MTG, I'm taking a necessary leave for the time being to work on my other stuff after this week. But I'll be working on a new Beastmaster Ascension Deck. I'm pretty hyped about it. It accrues a ton of card advantage through come into play effects and allows me to flood the field to set up a fatal Beastmaster attack. Of course, I'm bringing in a bit of tech to combat the new format. Now then, I won't be telling more, later you'll build a deck to counter it.

I'll also work on another red-black deck, this one involving Dark Tutelage. It's a nifty little card-draw engine and I expect some players to sleeving these up after Ad Nauseum rotates out. Of course I'm pretty hyped about it as well. Ahahahaha.

Anyways, I won't bored you with the details of my otherwise exciting school life. Signing out.

At M11 Prerelease.

It was cool. My friend Wesley asked me to come along, and I had made time, thank god, so now I can go. We went, got our packs, and I opened quite the list. Vengeful Archon, Dark Tutelage, Arbiter, and a entire smattering of cheap red burn. I quickly cobbled together a Red/White List and went 1-3 lol. ON hindsight, I had plenty of crappy early game cards, and most of the ones worth playing were on the higher end of my curve. Furthermore, cards I deemed as crap were actually life-changers in the games ahead. Oh well, at least I could put my knowledge to use when we go drafting this Saturday. I'm pretty pumped for it.

In other News, World Cup Finals tomorrow morning. I won't be watching, though I'm rooting for Holland to win.

1st week of the new term, Day 1

Aha, now that the block tests are out of the way, we enter the new school term with fresh faces and hearts all ready to learn. I wish I could say that, but it's far from the truth. The fact is that we have to rush through 60% of the syllabus this year in preparation for Promos. Furthermore, now that we're back, Art Week is at the last week of July and since we went to China, we're supposed to come up with something. Great, extra workload haha.

Furthermore, M11 prerelease's coming this weekend. Plenty of strong stuff to look forward to. Lightning Bolt's coming back, I'm looking forward to Chandra's Outrage.
Ah well. Probably won't have time to go anyway.

Well, I had math and this time, I'm confident of scoring an A (it's a H1 Subject though, that means only 10 points :() Only brain fart came along when I mixed up mean and sigma, causing my calculations to be way off. Good thing I had time to fix my mistakes.

MTG: Still thinking of a deck to play lol. So many decklists, none fitting my style.

Block Test, Day 4

Let's see... we had CSE today. I was able to bullcrap my way through some of the harder questions, though I highly doubt the value of my answers.

Block Test, Day 3

Day 3: Geography. One data response question, one essay.

Let's see... managed to remember most of my stuff. But I wasn't sure whether I was answering the questions right. Oh well. we'll just have to wait and see.

On the other hand, that day's BOAB was pretty meh. Still pumped for M11's release though.

Block Test, Day 2

Well, I think I fared a little better for Econs, just one minor problem...
I forgot about the application of Elasticity of Demand it came up in the hardest question of the paper!! OH Snap. That's 15 marks down the drain.

In other news, I noticed that M11's coming out. Sweet. There's a bunch of Really strong mono-green cards, with one extra detail- I heard rumours that Imperious Perfect is actually coming BACK!! That's Great!! Combined with the fact that Elvish Archdruid is coming along for another season, and that Joroga Warcaller's not going anywhere yet, that's a whopping total of 12 LORDS for Elves!! Elfball Deck, here I come!

In non-elf related news, cards like Garruk's Companion and other strong green cards are showing up, meaning that a playing seeking to go green have yet another route to go (Beasts?).

Blue is shaping up very nicely. With cards like Conundrum Sphinx, and Mana Leak, already a top-notch part of the Counter-spell family, Mono-Blue is looking to be a strong contender in block-constructed. No news of Ponder and Essence Scatter/Remove Soul though.

Oh well. Talk about the other colours next post. Signing off.

Block Test, Day 1

Hmmm... what should I say? Oh right, I got slaughtered. Badly.

GP: Essay was okay,I just wish I got more evidence to consolidate my points. Compre was a no-brainer, I could think up of quite a few synomyms for Soap, Shower Gel, and other sanitary products. Summary, I'm still worried, it's my weakest topic.

CL: Inability to write 600 words in Paper 1 + ridiculously hard questions in Paper 2 = I got steam-rollered haha. The dictionary was a great help, but I wish I wasn't resorting to it. Time for Primary-School Style Xi-Zi.

Tomorrow's Econs, I wish I could say I'm confident, but I'm not :) My essay writing style needs a lot of work. Oh well, at least we could head home after the test to prepare for the next one.

Wah, the school holidays go by so fast...

Woot, I haven't updated this in ages... too much to say, do, and worry about. In any case, it's worrying, School's starting tomorrow and I'm probably gonna get creamed in the Block Test, there's just too much to study. I'll probably get retained this year at this rate...

China was fun, but typically crowded. Wish I could post some pictures, I really took a lot while I was there.

Anyways, enough bothering you all with my worries, school's about to start, it's a fresh beginning and this is where the going gets tough. We're supposed to cover the majority of the syllabus this term...

Hmmm... maybe I'll post short sharp posts everyday rather than a long, drawn-out wall of text. It'll be easier on the eyes perhaps. And I'm looking to giving the blog a new look. Anyways, there's gonna be a lot of changes. Let's just keep looking forward, and onward, we can't just plan everything, maybe it's how the system works.
Like for example, in a society, there's always gonna be high-flyers and the downtrodden. Yes, it sucks but it's a way of life. You can't delay the inevitable, the best thing to do is to reduce the impact.

Had a good rest from most forms of physical training this week. Also, finally confirmed that I'm going to China for the immersion trip (Woot.) 2 main highlights. 'nuff said.

Maths: GLad to say, doing a hell load better now. Nearly got full marks for my last test, one qns. got a major brain fart, I found P(XEcons: We're doing Market Failure + Externalities, though if we can't finish the damn thing by this week, we're gonna be in deep sh*t for this July's Block Test. Phooey.
Geog: Finally got around to putting effort into my tutorials, haha. Now I feel like I could learn better, since I can x-ref my work from corrections.
CSE: We learnt how China's govt worked. Though I want to get a reference or two, really confused atm.
PW: We showed our class the GPP on Friday. Found out that if we take out the climate change bits, every single one of our points will be valid. Gonna see what we can do about this.
GP: Flunked my only essay until the block test =.= Gonna see if I can find a few questions to tackle during the holidays. Also need to hit the newspapers agn.

Haha, this week's the last before June Holidays. MY blog posts are going to be more frequent ( And not all on my subjects.)

We had quite the week. It's shaping up to be a tempestous one.



Maths: Did 6 hard, but standard issue questions. Did pretty well on the first few but decided to work on the older topics after having trouble with them.
Econs: However hard I try to pick up cursive handwritng, it doesn't feel right. Still writng slow =.= On the other hand, went through Market Efficiency and Failure that week. Next week going through Unit 5: Externalities.
Chinese: Finished topic 5- Going to tackle worksheets next week.
GP: Did my 1st, and apparently only essay till the block test. Qns: How far is your country successful in tackle it's biggest issues? Do tackle and post in comments, I'd love to see them.

Geog: We started on Granite Landforms this week. Only landform I could remember is the tor and the castle kopy (kopi?) Putting granite here to help me commit to memory:
Granite: Coarse-Grained Felsic Igneous Rock. Composed primarily of quartz, mica and feldspar. Very strong, resistant to most forms of weather save for hydration, hydrolysis and last one i forget le =p Also non-porous.
CSE: We did communism. Quite the interesting history we got there, Karl Marx should be given credit. Apparently Primitive Communism > Feudalism> Capitalism> Socialism > Communism. Please to note that the Soviet Union (or USSR) and China are both socialist states. Futhermore, China's govt system is a totalitarian system, although with the rise of the middle class it's becoming more of a authoritarian system instead. There's always a power struggle to keep balance, impossible for either side to seize power (each has something the other doesn't.)
PE: Still feeling quite fatigued. Starting to take more protein and lass carbo. Feeling stronger after every sleep. Nice. Inter-House next week, not taking part. Haha.
CCA: Not making progress, but finally figured how to do a lunge properly. My senior says I gotta commit it to muscle memory to do it off-hand. Therefore, Practicing whenever I can.
